The Flying Classroom

While rehearsals for the Christmas production of Johnny Trotz’s play The Flying Classroom are in full swing at the boarding school, children from the local secondary school kidnap Rudi Kreuzkamm and also steal all the dictation exercise books. Of course Martin, Matze, Sebastian, Uli and Johnny immediately spring into action. In the meantime, a dangerous experiment leads to a broken leg and – perhaps even worse – a letter to a broken heart.

In this classic school story, which Erich Kästner himself regarded as his best children’s book, it is clear that childhood is not only “baked with the very dough”, but also that children can be very lonely and insecure. Life is a lot easier, however, when you have good friends.

With gentle melancholy and warm humour, Kästner depicts the adventures of these schoolchildren in such a way that we can experience their problems, both big and little, for ourselves.
